Scam and safety seminars in April


Scammers are everywhere these days, whether it’s the fake service plan in the mail or a call from an allegedly incarcerated grandchild.

In answer, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an April 11 awareness presentation on how to prevent scams.

Sheriff Dan Coverley, the FBI, the Adult Protective Services and Douglas County Sheriff’s investigators.

Among the topics are keeping personal information safe, not sharing passwords, not clicking on suspicious links and keeping track.

The presentation will be conducted 5:30 p.m. April 11 in the training room of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 1038 Buckeye Road, Minden.

Coverley, East Fork Chief Tod Carlini and disaster preparedness expert Jim Williams will be speaking 10:30 a.m. April 20 at Valley Christian Fellowship, 1681 Lucerne St., in Minden.

The presentation includes a $20 brunch. There also will be a silent auction and boutique.

Contributions will be made to the Douglas County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit and the Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team.
