Genoa, Nev. — It was a near thing, but Minden Town Board members will advertise for a new member to serve the rest of Susan Jackson’s term. They also OK’d establishing a memorial for her at Jake’s Wetlands, which was named for her dad, Lawrence “Jake” Jacobsen and adding $50,000 for work on the Wetlands.

A plan to install a sidewalk from Highway 395 to County Road will take 2 feet off 10th Street, which everyone agreed sees too many speeding vehicles, including this reporter.

A design review for the new courthouse will wait until May. The drawings I published on Wednesday are not the final look for the place but gives us a good start for comparison to the final product.

County commissioners are scheduled to discuss adoption of a resolution that confirms the county won’t be taking any action on the Topaz Ranch Estates citizens petition.

They will also hear a presentation on the flood work on the levee and introduce ordinances for the new courthouse and Virginia Ranch project south of Gardnerville. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. at the old courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., in Minden.

This will be my last morning report for a couple of days, as I am sitting in the airport waiting on a flight to Texas, where I will join my siblings in watching a full eclipse. I’ve got my laptop, and will occasionally answer emails, but I’m under orders to sign off.

On the way to Reno we saw a little rain and maybe a few flakes… Snow showers are likely between 11 a.m.. and 5 p.m. today, but no accumulations, according to the forecast. The high temperature will climb to 48 degrees with the wind at 20 mph, gusting to 30 mph. Expect more of the same on Friday.
