The Northern Nevada All Veteran Honor Guard is seeking new members to help meet the honor services needed by veteran families.

The only All Veteran Honor Guard certified by the Department of Defense in Northern Nevada, it is sponsored by the American Legion High Desert Post 56, Carson City.

The honor guard provides funeral, memorial and commemorative services throughout the communities of Northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe, Truckee and other areas as requested.  Family members may simply ask the funeral home or contact the honor guard directly.

The honor guard’s full complement consists of a commander, chaplain, 1 fire commander, seven riflemen, four flag folders, a bugler and a boson piping (if the deceased is former navy or coast guard).  Riflemen often fill in for one of the other positions when required. Color Guard Services are provided for numerous veteran event venues throughout the year.

Qualifications are only that you have served in one of the branches of military service and available on weekdays.  The group does not provide services on Sundays.

It is a nonprofit organization, and all services are provided at no cost to the family, with donations greatly appreciated.

Anyone interested in joining this team of veterans honoring veterans, or would like to observe what they do, contact the Guard Commander Jim Jackson at (775) 443-8507.
