Genoa, Nev. — A collision on Johnson Lane at East Valley Road resulted in an SUV on its side in a field at around 2:40 p.m. Thursday. None of the three occupants opted for an ambulance ride. Both vehicles had to be towed.


The Job Fair and Volunteer Expo was packed on Thursday with around 50 employers, organizations and service clubs represented at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. There was a good crowd in the aisles checking out opportunities.


There were only a few seats open at Thursday’s Douglas County Business Council’s 31st Critical Issues Conference, where longtime trails advocate Carlo Luri was remembered.

On Thursday, approximately 15 gallons of hydraulic oil leaked into Indian Creek Reservoir and the reservoir is closed for recreation, according to the South Tahoe Public Utility District. A break in the hydraulic line used to operate a valve on the dam was the source of the leak.


A controlled burn at Burton Creek State Park on the west short of Lake Tahoe was sending up a pretty substantial plume of smoke for the second day in a row on Thursday. Burning is supposed to subside by today.


The Quarry Fire is up to 4,737 acres this morning. Air quality in Carson Valley hit its peak for the week at 1 a.m. with an index in the moderate range of 82. Air is up to the good range this morning.


A winter weather advisory goes into effect for Mono County 11 p.m. through 8 p.m. Sunday. Don’t be surprised if Ebbetts and Sonora passes are closed for the storm.


If we’re going to get a freeze, it’s forecast to happen just before dawn on Monday. It all depends on when the cloud cover clears. After that, the weather is supposed to warm up for a spell. The forecast rain has been revised down to around a tenth of an inch as most of the storm is expected to hit further south.


The clouds are forecast to show up tonight with the west wind 10-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph. Showers won’t arrive until 2 a.m., with more after 11 a.m. Saturday.  The high temperature is forecast around 75 degrees today, dropping to 59 degrees on Saturday.
