Genoa, Nev. — Douglas High School’s homecoming parade kicked off the annual celebration that will culminate at the Tiger’s football game against Wooster on Friday night. The Homecoming king and queen will be named at halftime. The dance is Saturday.

The FISH Family Ranchos Service Center is having their annual coat giveaway 3-6 p.m. today at the center, 921 Mitch Drive. Free hotdogs, chips and cookies will also be available. For more information call 775-265-3474.

It looks like the low temperature before daybreak this morning was 24 at Genoa Lane and Highway 395. Jeff Garvin reported 28 degrees in Fredericksburg. We’ll see if my last-minute blanketing of the tomatoes bought me some time with 33 degrees in Genoa.

There’s a 17-degree reading on the Desert Research Institute thermometer out in the middle of the Valley, but that thing is positively Twainian in its exaggerations.

The freeze watch ends at 8 a.m. when things should start to warm up a bit with sunny skies and a high near 61 degrees. The low is forecast to dip into the upper 20s in Minden on Friday morning, but then it will pop back up into the upper 30s and warmer through next Wednesday.
