Genoa, Nev. — Having received a glowing evaluation in May, Library Director Tim DeGhelder will find out this goals for 2024 at the Douglas County Board of Library Trustees. Today’s 10 a.m. meeting at the Minden Branch will be the first for new trustee Jimayne Merkow.

Members of the 911 Surcharge Advisory Committee will meet key employees Emergency Communications Manager Brent Finster and Emergency Manager Kara Easton. The committee meets 1:30 p.m. in the commission chambers.

Easton will officially be in charge of managing Douglas County’s emergencies starting Saturday after East Fork Fire Protection District’s contract expires. Let’s hope we can keep that work down to dull roar, while she gets her feet under her.

When I went to work on Monday, the Nevada Department of Transportation drainage work was on Genoa Lane. When I came home they were back at Muller and Foothill.

There was a small rockslide around 6 p.m. Monday on Kingsbury Grade. Just a reminder that the mountain roads are going to subject to falling rocks for a while until everything dries out.

I did a stream check on Monday and Pine Nut Creek is still flowing a bit while Genoa Creek was dry. High temperatures in the 90s may be sufficient to produce one more big rise in the river before it settles down for the summer.

There are reports of barely measurable rain on Monday, but they are all under a tenth of an inch. We might see some isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. today, otherwise the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature of 79 degrees with the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph.
