Nevada’s Oldest Town opened its celebration of the Fourth of July with a kids and pets parade through town on Tuesday morning.

“It’s a great family event, a great wholesome event,” said Genoa Town Board Chairman Gordon Pasley said. “We’d like it to keep going for another 100 years and continue our way of life here in Carson Valley, and in Genoa, Nevada.”

The parade is just the start of the celebration that will continue through this afternoon with music as part of its Americana Celebration.

The crescendo is the Carson City Symphony performing in Mormon Station State Historic Park at around 3:45 p.m. today.

Fans were already set up in the park on Tuesday morning as members of the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department grilled chicken for sale at the event.

For a preview of patriotic music, the Carson Valley Pops is performing at Heritage Park in Gardnerville starting around 11:30 p.m. and going through lunchtime.

Speaking of lunch, Minden's barbecue will be cooking in the town park through 2 p.m. with free hotdogs and hamburgers.
