Virtually simultaneous calls saw emergency personnel scrambling on Friday afternoon.

An explosion on the roof of the Smith’s at 2:40 p.m. had East Fork firefighters and Douglas County deputies respond to the grocery store.

Employees evacuated and the store was closed as firefighters investigated the cause.

Fifteen minutes later, at 2:55 p.m. a vehicle vs. fifth-wheel collision closed Highway 395 near Spring Valley Road.

Two people were reportedly injured in the collision, according to fire personnel on scene.

An ambulance helicopter was called to the scene but canceled by personnel on scene.

There was no report of injury as a result of the Smith’s explosion, which likely occurred in a refrigeration unit, according to firefighters on scene. There was also no apparent spread of fire to the building.
