Work is underway at the future home of Harbor Freight Tools in Gardnerville.

Harbor Freight Tools expects to bring 25-30 new jobs to Gardnerville this fall after it announced Wednesday signing a deal to open a new location.

Construction has already begun at the location, using local workers and companies from the surrounding Gardnerville, according to the announcement.

“We’ve been looking to open a location in Gardnerville for a number of years so that we can provide the tools and equipment at tremendous values to the community,” said Senior Vice President, Real Estate and Construction Trey Feiler. “In addition to finding a great location, we were attracted by the availability of great associates in the Gardnerville area, and we look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”

An official opening date will be announced closer to opening.

According to the company, Harbor Freight Tools is one of the nation’s fastest growing retailers, opening two new stores every week.

The retailer will be a significant change from the prior tenant, Bealls, which closed in early 2020 so the parent company could convert it to a Gordmans.

That store was scheduled to open with a marching band and celebration on March 17, 2020, the day the coronavirus lockdown was implemented in Nevada, and never opened.

The location was created by dividing the former Scolari’s, which closed Nov. 29, 2013, between it and Grocery Outlet. The Grocery Outlet survived the pandemic and continues to do business in Gardnerville.
