Lyon murder suspect awaiting trial found dead in cell

The man accused in the kidnapping and murder of Naomi Irions was found dead in his cell on Sunday evening, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Troy Driver, 43, who was awaiting trial in the murder appeared to have committed suicide by asphyxiation, according to Sheriff Brad Pope.

In accordance with Sheriff’s Office policy, Nevada State Police detectives will conduct an outside investigation.

Driver was found during a headcount at around 6:17 p.m.

“Upon discovering the inmate, deputies immediately entered the cell and started lifesaving measures to include CPR,” Pope said in a Sunday night statement. “While deputies performed CPR on the inmate, medical personnel with the Yerington Fire Department arrived and took over.”

Irion was abducted from the Fernley Walmart before dawn on March 12, 2022.

Driver was arrested on March 25, 2022, and the truck authorities had been searching for was impounded for evidence.

Her body was found buried in the desert and was identified five days after Driver’s arrest.
