An excavator parked near Cradlebaugh Bridge with its biggest catch so far this year. The river didn't rise to the point where the state had to start fishing logs out of it this weekend, but that's still a possibility as the season progresses.

Genoa, Nev. — It appears as though county commissioners could see a contract with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Protective Association at some point in the near future. Commissioners are scheduled to hear a review of the arbitrator’s findings on Thursday.

Buckeye Road will be closed between Sanford Way and Orchard Road 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Tuesday to repair damage from flooding that occurred in January and March.

A bill that would silence the Minden siren was passed out of the Senate Government Affairs committee on Friday, avoiding the deadline. Another bill that would require violent DUI offenders to spend time in a cell before being placed in minimum security has been exempted from the deadline.

The East Fork of the Carson River crested well below and before its forecast 12.4 feet at 7 a.m. today. I suspect it just wasn’t warm enough to drive it higher than the 12.8 feet it hit early last week. There’s still a bunch of water coming over the power dam.

The snow-water equivalent at Ebbetts Pass at the top of the East Fork appears to have plateaued around 75.2 inches this morning. The record year of 2017 is 79.5 inches for today’s date and peaked April 22 with 81.9 inches.

Maybe it was the warm weather lulling motorists to sleep, but there were a couple of wrecks over the weekend in the mountains. Emergency services responded to two vehicles off the highway in Alpine on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

A wind advisory kicks off 1 p.m. today through 8 a.m. Tuesday with southwest to west winds 20-30 mph gusting to 50 mph, with wind-prone areas seeing 65 mph. If you broke out the patio furniture for the weekend, might be a good idea to put it up this morning.

A cold storm is expected to arrive on the wind tonight. We night see some rain in the Valley, but temperatures are dropping around 20 degrees for Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the Weather Service, so there could be a little snow in the mix.

The forecast calls for partly sunny skies today with a high temperature near 58 degrees and the southwest wind gusting to 40 mph in the Valley this afternoon.
