Genoa, Nev. — Volunteers are expected to start putting flags out at Eastside Memorial Cemetery 8:30 a.m. today. There aren’t any formal ceremonies scheduled for Memorial Day this weekend.

Early in-person voting starts 10 a.m. Saturday in the north room of the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville. You can also drop off your mail-in ballot there or at the courthouse when its open over the next two weeks.

Unwind tonight with Jimmy Buffet tribute Band Garrat Wilkin & The Parrotheads at 6 p.m. in Minden Park. I wager some folks are already starting to cordon off spots. Any blankets left on the lawn before 5 p.m. will be confiscated.

I hear the Library’s Bookmobile is back mobile after requiring some extensive work. It’s going to be visiting the farmers markets starting next week. It will be at every Sierra Chef Market through July and at four of the Minden markets starting June 7

A wreck around 4 p.m. at Highway 395 and Mica sent southbound traffic down Jacks Valley Road for an hour. No one opted for an ambulance ride, but there was a significant fluid spill that literally required mopping up.

A lake wind advisory is in effect 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today with waves up to 4 feet in spots on Lake Tahoe and 1-3 feet on Topaz Lake. It doesn’t look to me like this is going to be much of a boating weekend.

I’m getting conflicting forecasts for the weekend, with showers out of the forecast for Minden, but still in a weather statement issued early this morning. If I were giving odds, I’d say expect the wind and be grateful for any rain.

Today expect mostly cloudy skies and a high near 78 degrees. It’ll be breezy with the southwest wind 5-10 mph, picking up to 15-20 mph in the afternoon, gusting to 30 mph.
