Retired Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini received a silver belt buckle engraved with a chukar for his more than three decades of service to the Carson Valley Chukar Club.

Pierini received the Club’s first Legacy Award at their March 5 dinner, according to Stacy Trivitt.

“Ron, first and foremost, is an outdoorsman who loves to fish and hunt,” club members said in selecting him. “At his core he shares our passion for experiencing the best that the outdoors has to offer.  Ron has a deep passion for Nevada and has from an early age sought to experience all that Nevada has to offer.”

Pierini has donated much of his free time to the club to improve upland and wildlife habitat.

“Truthfully, our club would not have been able to raise money year in and year out for wildlife related projects if it were not for the example and leadership of Ron,” Trivitt said. “Ron plowed the road for this club to raise well over $1 million for wildlife. Ron has 100 of hours as a hunter education instructor with the youth fees being paid by money donated by this club.”

Pierini has been a strong advocate for the Operation Game Thief program and donated much of his time toward that effort as well.

In 2020, Ron was nominated by the Chukar Club and won the Wayne E. Kirch Conservation Award by The Nevada Department of Wildlife Commissioners, the most prestigious award in the State of Nevada given to only those who have gone above and beyond and delivered significant results towards conservation, management or enhancement of wildlife.

“It is no surprise that Ron is now serving on the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners,” Trivitt said. “We have no doubt that Ron will continue to advocate ferociously for the good of Nevada Wildlife and we are fortunate that he will continue to work on behalf of all of us who love the Nevada outdoors in his new capacity.”

Steve Nalder and Todd Wilcks presented the belt buckle and a certificate of award.

Celeste Pierini received a bouquet for supporting her husband for many years.
