Heavy equipment is clearing a portion of Washoe Tribe land behind Carson Valley Plaza for a sawmill.

Genoa, Nev. — Work along Vista Grande behind Carson Valley Plaza is a sawmill on land leased by the Washoe Tribe to Tahoe Forest Products. According to the tribe’s web site the project will create 30 jobs and will use wood from trees thinned from the forest.


The Clear Creek Trail is officially open between the Jacks Valley Trailhead and James Lee Park. Watch for nonmotorized traffic crossing the road through there.


The final weekend of “Nunsense II” opens 7:30 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Tickets are $25 at the door or $20 for seniors and students. Showings continue Saturday night and wrap up 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available online at cvct.ludus.com


Youth Day is July 23 at the PK Ranch on Waterloo and Highway 88, where more than 250 children will be learning to fly fish, shoot arrows, fire weapons and a whole passel of other activities. Organizer Tim Miller says there’s always room for more. You can contact him at 775-781-7571.


Winds of 15-20 mph gusting to 30-35 mph and low humidity this afternoon could bring increased risk of fire weather, though the Weather Service in Reno hasn’t issued a fire watch or red flag warning.


Today’s high of 92 degrees is as cool as it’s going to get before it warms up again next week. I’m not seeing anything in the forecast that would indicate anything we haven’t already seen this summer. There’s the faintest inkling of the most distant possibility of showers late next week.
