Genoa, Nev. — I’m getting indications there might be some push-back on the settlement of the vacation home rental ordinance at today’s Douglas County Commissioners meeting. Commissioners meet starting at 1 p.m. today in the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.

County commissioners’ discussion on redistricting today doesn’t appear to have received that much interest with only 17 residents listed as expressing a preference. Option 3 got the most support with 12 and option 1 came in second with four. Minden and Gardnerville combined in District 2.

The concept of combining all three towns in a single commission district only got one supporter, Genoa resident Bill Brooks, who has made it pretty clear that he thinks being combined with Tahoe gives Nevada’s oldest town short shrift.

Keep in mind that commissioner, school board and East Fork Fire districting only determines where a candidate can live. All the races are at-large. Actual filing for office doesn’t occur until March.

Pile burning is under way above Genoa and is expected to begin down near Fay-Luther Canyon Trail head today. With snow on the ground fire officials are hoping they can get those cleaned up before it dries out.

Today will be another nice one with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 56 degrees. The breeze will pick up out of the southwest at 5 mph.
