The Douglas High boys’ basketball team put a historic cap on its regular season Friday night with a 95-70 over Carson High.
In putting up a season-high in points, the Tigers knocked down 20 3-pointers in the win, tying a Nevada High School state record in the process.
According to NIAA record books, the single-game 3-point record for a team was 20 made triples set by Yerington in 1994 against Bishop Manogue.
As of Friday night, there were two teams atop the list, as the Tigers equaled the record, draining 20 triples against their rivals.
“We found out after the game. He (coach Daniel Schierholt) told us he had a secret,” said JC Reid. “We went in there and it was fun.”
“We always joke about being the best 3-point shooting team in the North,” said senior Kasen Boggs. “Tonight, we shot the lights out.”
Boggs led the Tigers with seven triples on the night while Reid added six of his own.
Caden Thacker and Chris Myers, who each had three triples, put six of the other seven on the score sheet. Dakota Jones added one more three.
“We all had confidence in each other. Once you make a couple, everyone gets hot off of that,” added Boggs.
Ultimately, Douglas finished 20-of-33 from deep, shooting 61 percent from beyond the arc.

Postseason dates set
Douglas had already assured itself of the No. 3 seed in the Class 5A North prior to Friday night, but hadn’t yet had its opponent determined.
With McQueen besting Reno, 52-33, that means the Tigers will host No. 6 McQueen in Minden Monday evening to start the Class 5A postseason.
Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The winner will play at No. 2 Bishop Manogue Wednesday evening with a state tournament berth on the line.

Sweeping the rivalry
Friday night’s win over Carson capped a season sweep of the rivalry in favor of the Tigers.
The record-setting performance was no short of awe-inspiring, as it seemed as though the Tigers simply could not miss.
Boggs assisted on four of Douglas’ first six baskets, including an alley-oop to Chris Smalley, who slammed home a minimum of two dunks in the victory.
Boggs’ fifth assist of the opening period went to Myers, who scored an uncontested bucket.
By the time everything was said and done, Boggs had a double-double to his name with 31 points and 11 assists.
JC Reid followed with 18 points, all of which came from beyond the arc.
Smalley and Myers each added 13 points for Douglas to go along with Thacker’s nine points.
Douglas couldn’t ask to be red-hot at a better time.
The Tigers are winners of nine out of their last 10 and now head into the postseason with an elephant’s worth of confidence and a state record to go along with it.
Douglas’ only loss in its last ten games came to top-seeded Spanish Springs.
“Find the hot hand. Go with what’s working and we just have to continue that through the playoffs,” added Reid. “If we keep our intensity up and keep sharing the ball I think we got this.”
“We’re coming for state,” added Boggs.
