Douglas County Republican Women are getting into the Christmas spirit, having set up their annual tree at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

The club has had a tree up for the past eight years.

“This year our theme is ‘Unsung Hero’s,’ the animals who were used during the wars,” organizers said. “To name a few—dolphins, pigeons, dogs, horses, mules, rats, elephants, camels and even a fox. We hope you will take time to go to the museum to see the Gallery of Trees and vote for your favorite.”

The annual Douglas County Historical Society’s Gala was Saturday.

Admission is free to the museum and visitors can visit the Gallery of Trees.

Douglas County Republican Women are holding their pre-Christmas meeting 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Valley Christian Fellowship in Minden.

“This month will be special as we are forgoing our normal format,” organizers said. “We are having an hour of fun, games, gift exchange, value $10, not required to participate, prizes, songs and old fashioned fun.”
