Carson Valley Medical Center is offering a 10-week trauma support group starting 4:30-6 p.m. every week starting Wednesday and continuing through June 29.

The group is for adult spouses and family members of loved ones who are living with trauma. Insurance will be billed for the cost of the program, and financial aid may be available to those who qualify.

“Supporting a partner or a loved one in healing from trauma can be complex and challenging in many ways,” Clinic Manager Erin Dudley said. “Many groups in the community focus on individuals who have experienced trauma, but there can be little support for the spouses and family members of these individuals. Our goal through this group is to provide support, resources, and education on the critical role that spouses and family members can play in supporting trauma recovery while also maintaining their own mental and emotional health.”

People will not be turned away based on their ability to pay for services.

People who are interested in attending the group are required to sign up early to expedite insurance paperwork and registration.

Topics discussed in the group include what trauma is, loving someone with trauma, cognitive distortions, emotional regulation, mindfulness, boundaries and self-care.
