Genoa, Nev. — A Fall Job Fair and Career Expo is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Hosted by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce there will be more than a score of local business and government employers there to talk about opportunities and collect applications.

There has been a substitution of speakers for next week’s Douglas County Republican Women luncheon, with Sen. James Settelmeyer talking about redistricting. They originally had Michele Fiore, but after she announced for governor, the group wanted to avoid the appearance they were endorsing a candidate in that crowded field.

I didn’t hear about the substitution until after today’s paper was in bed and dreaming of doorsteps, so the calendar item still says Fiore is speaking. The Republican Women meet Nov. 3 at Valley Christian Fellowship. I’ve heard the senator talk about redistricting, which will require a special session of the Legislature next month.

While I’m making corrections, I apparently miscounted the number of library directors. Douglas has actually had four Librarians since 1967, so we’re looking for No. 5.

The Tigers are traveling to Reno to take on the McQueen Lancers for the second time this season tonight, because Friday is the Nevada Day Holiday. If you have business with local, county or state offices, today’s the day, because they’ll all be closed Friday. Federal offices and the post office will be open, however.

Most eyes will be on Carson City this weekend for the Nevada Day celebration. Both the Tiger marching band and the Jr. ROTC will be participating in the parade.

There’s a big old fog bank down along the river this morning which is expected to last until mid-morning. I don’t think it will leave much in the way of ice on roads in the Valley because the road temperature is in the mid-40s in Gardnerville.

It was a bit warmer than forecast on Wednesday, so I bet we will see better than the forecast 64 degrees today with sunny skies and a light breeze out of the west at 5 mph.
