Genoa, Nev. — A red flag warning has been issued for 2-11 p.m. today due to forecast thunderstorms and strong outflow winds. The National Weather Service in Reno is saying there isn’t much moisture associated with the storm, so expect some dry lightning.

East Fork firefighters responded to a fire on Kayne up in Johnson Lane around 6 p.m. When they arrived the landscaping, awning and fence were reportedly on fire. The blaze didn’t get into the house much. No cause was reported at the time.

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest implements fire restrictions starting Wednesday. That means no campfires outside of developed recreation areas and only smoking outside in clear areas. Also don’t weld or blow stuff up in the forest.

Impairment is suspected in the crash of a 2004 Chevy Colorado pickup that rolled over on Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe on Saturday morning. The unrestrained driver was ejected and transported with significant injuries. No information on the fatal off Highway 88 has been released yet.

There’s a spot open on the Genoa Historic District Committee. While applicants from Genoa have first priority, any county resident can apply. They’re looking for an architect, designer, engineer or anyone involved in a state or local historical group. Apply by July 16 at the Minden Inn or visit www.douglasnv.gov.

How hot was it on Monday? The Heritage Bank thermometer said 106 and I spotted 103 on the Eldorado Savings Bank in Gardnerville. It was 100 at Minden-Tahoe Airport, but officially, the high hit 98 degrees in the Douglas County seat, so 2 short of the record. We had a report of heat illness in Gardnerville on Monday.

It’s forecast to be hot again today with the forecast high hitting 99 degrees under sunny skies as the excessive heat warning continues. The wind will be out of the northwest at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph and there’s a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
