Genoa, Nev. — It appears that the novelty of voting early in-person is wearing off a little. The Douglas County Community Center saw 806 in-person voters on Monday, bringing the total to 6,729. There are only four more days of early in-person voting before Election Day. Election machines are available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, another 1,363 mailed ballots were either dropped off or arrived at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office by end of business on Monday, bringing the total to 13,575, or 35 percent of the number mailed to active voters. For more information, visit govotedouglas.com

The roving ballot box will be at Kahle Community Center 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and in Nevada’s oldest precinct, 3-6 p.m. today at the Genoa Town Hall. You may also drop off ballots at the community center in Gardnerville or the Election Tent behind the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.

Trinity Lutheran Preschool will reopen Monday after it closed due to a positive coronavirus test. Preschool and kindergarteners will be first back in school with older children returning Nov. 9.

The number of Douglas coronavirus cases has been steadily dropping over the past week, with two new cases on Monday and nine recoveries. That brings Douglas to 27 active cases, half Lyon’s 54 and nearly a third of Carson’s 75.

A red flag warning is in effect for Lake Tahoe and the Carson Range in Douglas County through noon today. There isn’t a drop of precipitation in the forecast for the rest of this month.

Monday’s low temperature tied the record for Oct. 26 with 12 degrees. The records for the rest of the month are pretty safe with the lows warming up into the upper 20s.

Minden-Tahoe Airport shows 14 degrees with no wind chill at 5:35 a.m. Today the high is forecast to reach 60 degrees under sunny skies, with another cold night tonight.
