The Election Day 2020 R-C Morning Report

Genoa, Nev. — Three-quarters of Douglas County’s 37,770 voters have already cast a ballot in the 2020 General Election. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today in the Douglas, Kahle, Washoe Tribe and Topaz Ranch Estates community centers. You can drop off your mailed ballot at the Election Tent in Minden, at the Sunridge Fire Station or any of the open polling places.

There’s a lot of chatter nationally about the fate of ballots that are postmarked today but come in the mail later. If you’re one of the 9,400 or so Douglas voters who haven’t cast a ballot, I suggest either voting or dropping your mailed ballot off in-person instead of mailing it, just to be safe.

With an hour before the polls open, more voters have already cast a ballot early than voted in any other Douglas County election with 28,367.

Tiny Alpine County is experiencing a serious coronavirus spike with 13 new cases reported over the last week, with 10 active and one in the hospital. Public Health Officer Richard Johnson said the county’s exploring alternative measures.

Douglas saw seven new cases and three recoveries on Monday bringing the county to 30 active cases and 405 recoveries. The next Douglas coronavirus testing event is 2-4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the community center in Gardnerville. Mills Park in Carson City is hosting a clinic 2-4 p.m. Friday.

Gardnerville might as well install a roundabout at Ezell and Gilman because that would also describe the discussion on that intersection. Town Board members meet 4:30 p.m. in the CVIC Hall in Minden with the Heritage Park traffic pattern at the top the agenda.

It will be nice weather for Election Day with the high in the mid-70s, but winter is coming. A possibility of snow or rain enters the forecast for Friday and Saturday. It’s 26 degrees in Minden at 6 a.m. so bundle up if you’re lining up early to vote.
