Two face drug and firearm charges

Two men face drug and firearm charges in court this week after they were arrested by deputies responding to neighbor’s complaints about drug dealing.

Thadd Michael Sidney Winton, 31, of South Lake Tahoe and Christopher Michael Murray, 26, were taken into custody after deputies responded to a Minden neighborhood.

According to court documents, the two men were standing in the open door of a Subaru on Monday afternoon when deputies arrived.

A search of the vehicle turned up a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.

According to the sheriff’s office both men have felony convictions, which makes them ineligible to possess a firearm.

Winton was free on court conditions after being arrested on Sept. 21 after leading deputies on a pursuit in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

He admitted to a count of attempting to elude a police officer and possession of a motor vehicle on Nov. 3.

He was supposed to attend a treatment program, according to his attorney. He is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court for sentencing in December.

Reports are the pair rolled two carts of groceries out of the Gardnerville Walmart around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies caught up with them in Minden and they were both taken into custody and the merchandise returned to the store.

• A California man who admitted to stealing credit cards from a woman’s purse received a suspended 2-3-year sentence on Monday.

Jeremy David Mitchell, 41, admitted to entering a room at the Presbyterian Conference Center at Lake Tahoe on Nov. 3, 2019, and taking the credit cards. He then ran up $1,649 in charges.

As part of his sentence, he will be required to pay back the money.
