Genoa, Nev. — It appears from the fire cameras that the Mountain View fire burning in Antelope Valley laid down around 3 a.m., which is also when it started raining. The rain should help dampen the fire danger for a little bit. East Fork is sending units down to help extinguish the blaze.

An 88 mph wind gust in the Foothills near where the Mottsville fire was burning was the highest speed reported by the National Weather Service on Tuesday night. All the Carson Valley fires are down for the count.

Road controls are pretty much where you’d expect them to be with a 6,600-foot snow level — over Kingsbury and on 50 from just above Carson City to the state line. The traffic cameras don’t show a ton of snow on the roads, but even a little can render them slick.

Douglas County planning commissioners approved the 23-year text update of the master plan on Tuesday after meeting for around five hours. Most of Tuesday’s work was clean-up and prioritization, though there was a rousing debate on a future business license. We’ll see where that goes.

A shortage of substitute teachers has prompted the school district to host a virtual substitute job fair 6 p.m. today. The link is at https://dcsd-k12.zoom.us/j/81873078100 and the password is subs2020.

One active coronavirus case related to Carson Valley Middle School and two presumptive cases related to Minden Elementary and Douglas High schools were reported on Tuesday. Douglas has five new cases and 10 recoveries bringing the county to 32 active.

There’s an inch of rain in my gauge north of Genoa and even I’m incredulous. Closest to back-up I have for that claim is .64 inches further up Jacks Valley Road. I can guarantee it’s wet out this morning.

The snow level is going to stay around 6,700 feet today with a high temperature of around 48 degrees. Expect some more wind out of the southwest at 15-20 mph gusting to 40 mph.
