Update: Power restored to more than 1,000 NV Energy customers

Power has been restored for more than 1,000 customers in Gardnerville and the Gardnerville Ranchos as of 4:20 p.m.

There were still seven outages affected 11 customers, according to NV Energy. The Gardnerville Ranchos, where the power company's web site saw dozens of outages along an axis following Kimmerling Road was relatively quiet.

Estimates are that power will be restored to the rest of NV Energy customers in Gardnerville and the Gardnerville Ranchos by 5 p.m. The restoration time was set back from 3:30 p.m. at around 3.

According to nvenergy.com there were 60 separate outages between the two communities, with the largest single outage occurring at 1:31 p.m. affecting 713 power customers in Gardnerville.

The largest group of Ranchos customers in one outage made up 339 customers.

Carson Valley and most of Western Nevada are under a high wind warning until 1 a.m.

The power outages coincided with a 41 mph wind gust in Fish Springs around 1:25 p.m. The winds at the fire station there have accelerated to 45 mph.

Minden-Tahoe Airport recorded a 41 mph gust at 12:55 p.m.

Chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires are being required over Kingsbury Grade as of 4 p.m. Friday. Traffic cameras show snow is starting to stick to the highway at Daggett Summit.

Due to strong winds, Caltrans and the CHP have initiated a High Profile Prohibition on Highway 395 from Bishop to Bridgeport. During this prohibition, campers, trailers, and permit loads are restricted from driving this section of Highway 395.

Additionally, there is a high wind advisory in place from Bridgeport to the Nevada state line. Officials advised the traveling public to drastically slow down and proceed with caution. Debris, snow, and sand blown by winds can pose a significant threat on the roadway.
