Carson City Little League Junior all-star team got off to a rough start in the District 1 tournament.

Reno American scored in four of its five at-bats en route to an 11-1 mercy rule victory at Governors Field on Wednesday night.

Reno American faces Reno National on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the three-team tournament. The loser faces Carson City on Saturday in an elimination game at 10 a.m. The finals are set for Sunday.

Reno scored two in the first when Ethan McNamara stroked a two-out, two-run single off Wesley Simpson, scoring Ryan Davis and Jack Sheltra, both of whom reached on singles.

Carson scored its only run in the third.

Daniel Fitch singled, but was forced at second by Henry Lawson, who reached second on a single by Aaron Ramirez. Trevin George walked to load the bases. Jacob Mathison singled to right to drive in Lawson, but Ramirez was cut down trying to score from second.

Reno answered with three in the third for a 5-1 lead thanks to an error, a steal of home and a run-scoring single by Colin Falkowski.

Davis came on in the fourth for Reno and retired six straight Carson hitters without a ball leaving the infield.

Sam Hart and Bradley Fierro drove in runs in the fourth, and then Hart delivered a walk-off single to end the game with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Fitch, Mathison and Ramirez had Carson’s only hits.

“We hit a lot of groundballs right at people,” Carson City manager Terry George said. “Reno played a good game.”
