The Carson City 10-year-old all-star team rallied from a 7-1 deficit to knock off Carson Valley, 13-7, Tuesday night in the District 1 tournament at Governors Field.
Carson City returns to action Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Carson Valley, thanks to three Carson errors and a big two-run single by Dylan Natividad, scored one in the second and six in the third for a 7-1 lead.
That was the extent of Carson Valley’s offense. CV had just one hit and two baserunners the rest of the contest, as Drew Wilkin pitched well in relief.
Carson stormed back with seven runs of its own, using five hits and two walks to grab the momentum.
Nick Heald and Drew Wilkin singled to start the fourth. Ethan Cook forced Wilkin at second for the first out of the inning. Tyler Silsby walked to load the bases. Kale Thomspon walked, forcing in a run to make it 7-2.
Eastyn Hendrix rolled out to drive in a run and make it 7-3. Ryker Russell delivered a two-run single, slicing the deficit to 7-5, and after Ash Wilkin singled, Heald came up for the second time in the inning and ripped a three-run double to give Carson the lead for good at 8-7.
Carson increased its lead to 9-7 in the fifth on two Carson Valley errors.
Carson closed out the scoring in the sixth with four more runs on a double by Russell and three consecutive Carson Valley errors.
Heald went 3-for-4 at the plate and Russell added two hits. Drew and Ash Wilkin each finished with a hit.
Carson Valley managed just four hits in the game, one each by Brock Tholen, Ryder Deines, Aaden Balcon and Natividad.
