RENO — The Carson Blue Jays scored in all six of their at-bats en route to a 13-6 win over the Colt 45s on Saturday at the High Sierra Tournament at Bishop Manogue.
The win gave Carson a split on the day. Earlier, the Boise Gems stopped the Blue Jays, 14-2.
Carson concludes play in the event Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Carson’s next home game is Tuesday night against the Reno Knights.
Carson trailed 2-1 after one, but outscored the Colt 45s, 8-1, over the next three innings to take control of the contest.
Vernon Painter, Garritt Benavidez and Justin Nussbaumer all drove in two runs. Nussbaumer finished with two RBI. Kobe Morgan, Bryce Baker and Delsin Roberts also hit safely.
In the opener, Alex McSmith hit a walk-off grand slam against Damien Branco to lead the Boise Gems to a mercy rule win. McSmith and Tomas Vizgirdas each drove in five runs.
Vernon Painter took the loss, surrendering nine runs, eight earned, in four innings.
Carson managed just two hits, singles by Josh Buchan and Baker. The latter had an RBI single in the fourth. Painter’s infield out drove in a run in the third.
