Fallon stays unbeaten with win over Hug

The Greenwave boys basketball team continued its perfect start with a dominating 74-41 win over Hug on Thursday at the Elmo Dericco Gym.

Fallon (4-0) hosted Truckee on Tuesday for the league opener and hosts North Valleys on Saturday.

Fallon jumped to a 22-7 lead over the Hawks after the first quarter as four players scored in double figures. Johnny Cooley continued his assault from long range, hitting five 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 21 points. Thomas Steele scored 17 points, followed by Hayden Strasdin with 12 and Elijah Jackson with 11.

Steele and Cooley tied for the team lead in rebounds with five, and Hayden and Avery Strasdin, Brock Richardson, David Mcfalls and Shaw Lee each had three rebounds. Cooley led the team in steals with four and Steele had three. Jackson and Jace Harmon each had five assists.

Fallon opened the season winning the Rail City Classic two weeks ago in Sparks.

In the opening game, Fallon dismantled Excel Christian, 82-21.

Four players scored in double figures, led by Cooley’s 17 as all players scored and had at least one steal. Jackson scored 15 points, Steele had 13 and Mcfalls added 10. Cooley shot 3 of 6 from downtown, and Mcfalls and Strasdin each grabbed five rebounds.

Cooley also led the team in steals with five, followed by Strasdin with four. Jackson also had three blocks.

After a tight first half – Fallon trailed by one – the Greenwave outscored Vacaville (Calif.) by 19 in the second half for its second win of the year.

Jackson led the team with 22 points and Cooley added 18, including four 3-pointers, followed by Mcfalls with 10. Jackson, who added a pair of 3-pointers, led the team in rebounding with six and Hayden Strasdin, Mcfalls and Steele each had three. Cooley led in steals with five and Jackson had four.

In the championship win over Heritage (Colo.), Fallon coasted, 72-43.

Jackson led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Steele with 15 and Cooley with 14. Steele came close to a double-double with seven rebounds and Cooley added four rebounds. Steele and Jackson each had five steals.
