In it’s inaugural year, the High Desert Detachment Marine Corp League’s Toys for Tots golf tournament raised about $1,400 to help bring Christmas to children in need.

There were 39 participants in the tournament, resulting in nine teams of four and one team of three. The winning team was comprised of Jim Isbister, Troy Tweedy, Ed Smirness and Randy Hines.

According to Christopher Hansberry, program coordinator for Toys for Tots, the event went well considering it’s the first time the event was held. He said the Marine Corp League volunteers appreciate everyone who came out for the tournament.

Hansberry said they are planning to hold the tournament again next year, though there may be some changes. They hope to bring in more sponsors and raffle prizes, and possibly change the date.

“We’ll plan it a little more next year,” Hansberry said. “Maybe set it in a little cooler part of the year.”

He said they may schedule the tournament in October next year to coincide with other Toys for Tots projects.

He also noted the importance of Toys for Tots. He said it’s a good organization and helps children feel loved during the holidays. He added all children deserve a little Christmas.

“Children with a smile make it all worthwhile,” Hansberry said.
