Jeff Moon won two events outright and tied for first in another to win the overall individual award in the 5-Tatholon.

The inaugural 5-Tathalon welcomed nine teams two weeks ago, resulting in another successful fundraiser for the Greenwave wrestling team.

“We were hoping for 10 in the first year but we would like to double that next year,” said Missy McCormick of the Greenwave Takedown Wrestling program.

The team of Tom McCormick, Greg Moon, Karl Buckmaster and Jeff Moon won the event, which featured, trap shooting, horseshoes, roping, pool and darts, took place at Fallon’s trap club and Sandwinds. Jeff Moon was the overall individual winner after he was victorious in trap shooting, darts and pool (tied). Moon tied with Dawn Clark in pool, while Barry Vasquez won horseshoes and a three-way tie resulted in roping among Lester de Braga, Clint Oney and Josh Decker.

The Calcutta kicked off the event on Aug. 11 at Sandwinds where people were able to purchase teams or make bids.

“People were having dinner or would be in the bar and then they started making bids,” Missy McCormick said. “It was a really fun event and it ended up being a great atmosphere.”

The 5-Tathalon will be back next year and McCormick said the fundraising group received suggestions to help the event. McCormick was impressed by the Fallon Trap Club’s facility and said Sandwinds went above and beyond, including setting up extra horseshoe pits.

“There were lots of suggestions from golf to corn hole,” she said. “At the end of the day, there was positive feedback on the events we had. We were very fortunate.”

Along with the annual Night of Fights boxing event, the Greenwave wrestling team uses funds to help with travel and equipment.
