Community sports roundup: Smith, Lehman lead rodeo locals

The Douglas-Carson High School Rodeo enjoyed a number of highlights on its home stage Saturday and Sunday when the Nevada High School Rodeo Association made its annual stop at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Douglas-Carson club member Corley Raper took third place in barrel racing with a time of 17.955 seconds, one-half second behind Makenah Faircloth of Las Vegas in first-place (17.472).

Brynn Lehman rode to fourth place in pole bending with a 21.208 clocking. She also finished 14th in barrels with a time of 18.512.

Katie Cullen placed sixth in girls cutting (70 points) and sixth in reined cow horse (139 points).

Raper finished ninth in goat tying (9.010).

In the junior high rodeo, Lander Smith of Douglas-Carson won cute dogging with a time of 4.860 seconds. Smith also took fifth in boys goat tying (16.870).

Mckenzie Raper combined with Ali Norcutt of Fallon to capture first-place in team roping with a 19.210 clocking.

Ashley Fitzpatrick and Mckenzie Raper placed third and fourth in barrel racing with respective times of 18.171 and 18.525. Raper also placed third in girls goat tying (9.200), fourth in breakaway roping (.350) and fourth in pole bending (22.239).


Jorgensen, Cloutier win

at Silver Oak

Paul Jorgensen and Jeff Cloutier were flight winners at the recent Carson City Senior Men’s Club event played at Silver Oak.

Jorgensen won Flight A with a net 70, beating Jim Higgins by one shot and Jim Silsby and Milo Beauchman by three shots.

Cloutier won the B flight with a 69, knocking off Michael Parapid by one shot, Mike Brister by two shots and Joe Paden by five shots.

Beauchman was the low gross winner.


Swann foursome wins

Empire senior event

Geoff Swann, Dennis Justin, Robey Willis and Steve McMorris shot a 112 to win Flight A of the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event held at Genoa recently.

John Masiello, Nick Paul, Jim Green and John Lewis shot 120, while Gene Gaston, Henry Teague, Tom Sawyer and Marshall McCurdy were third at 121.

John Sullivan, George Allison and Myron Carpenter plus a blind bogey won Flight B with a 116, two shots better than Kurt Cleek, Peter Youngdahl, Melvin Ness and a blind bogey. The group of Ralph Bothe, Bob White, Joe Stuart and Bill Langs were third at 120.


Eagles edge Seahawks

in tight flag game

The Eagles won their first game of the season, knocking off the Seahawks, 30-27, in the Talents Carson City NFL Flag Football League.

The Eagles lost to the Patriots, 30-0, and the Raiders, 48-18, in their other contests. Ryan Galloway threw seven TD passes, while Matthew Doan, R.J. Gomez, Ryan Kleine and Jon Ammerman all scored twice.

The Patriots beat the Steelers 51-31 to go 1-1 for the week. William Ore had three TD passes and six other TDs. Jacob Hansen had six TD passes and three other scores and Noah Presswood scored four times. Anthony Loyola contributed two scores.

The Steelers went 0-2 for the week, losing 51-31 and 36-6 to the Raiders. Christian Smith had two TD passes and Riley Geovaneti scored twice.

The Raiders, 3-0, beat the Steelers and Eagles. Joey Altermerano threw 10 TD passes and Michael Gullie had two TD passes and four other scores. Carlos Conchas scored four times. Eric Vasquez and Chris Bravo scored three times.

The Browns, also 3-0, beat the Seahawks, 60-37. Trevor Marlin had four TD passes and one TD. Alex Myrehn had three scores and Victor Contreras had two TD passes and one score.

Alan Mayoral scored four times in the Seahawks’ two losses and Elijah Larry tallied three times.


Eagle Valley sets couples event

Eagle Valley Golf Course will hold a couples tournament on Sunday, April 23. The 2-player scramble will have a 9 a.m. shotgun start and will be held on the East Course. Call the pro shop at 887-2380 to sign up.
