Community Sports: Browns win two in flag football


The Browns rolled to easy wins over the Patriots and Eagles to highlight the opening week of the Talents Carson City Flag Football League.

The Browns beat the Eagles, 51-18, and the Patriots, 41-12. In other action, the Raiders edged the Patriots, 32-26, and Seahawks edged the Steelers, 50-40.

Trevor Marlin threw 11 TDs for the Browns and Anthony Larry scored five TDs. Alex Myrehn, Kory Grist and Javier Darrell scored twice apiece.

Alan Mayoral scored five times and added two TD passes, and Aden McNabb had two scores plus a TD pass.

R.J. Gomez led the Eagles with two TDs while Ryan Kleine added one score.

For the Raiders, Joey Altermerano threw for four scores and Eric Vasquez scored twice. Christian Smith and Braden Marsh threw for two scores apiece and Kincaid Gill had three scores to lead the Steelers. William Orr led the Patriots with three TD passes and Jacob Hansen scored three times.

Swanson wins top

flight for Empire

Don Swanson shot a net 67 to win Flight A of the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event played at Silver Oak recently. Swanson edged Jim Shabi by a stroke. Mac MacQuarrie was third.

R.C. Crapo won Flight B with a 65, two better than Geoff Swann and three better than Henry Teague. Jay Stuart won Flight C in a tiebreaker over Mike Logue. Both shot 68s. Fred Olesek had a 68 for third place. Ken Cuneo needed a tiebreaker to beat George Allison and Norm Scoggin for the Flight D title. All three had net 70s.

Swann and George Flamer had two closest-to-the-pin shots apiece.

Cwalina wins CVGC

Stableford event

Paul Cwalina scored 19 points to win Flight A at the recent Carson Valley Men’s Club Stableford tournament.

Jack Sparman was second with 15 points and Dan Essary was third with 11. Bob Pemberton won Flight B with 21 points, edging Augie Martinez by one point. Chris Willing was third with 17. John Guidicatti won Flight C with 28 points, two better than Brent Holderman and eight ahead of Jack Zippwald.

Rodeo scheduled at

Douglas fairgrounds

The Carson-Douglas High School Rodeo Club will hold its yearly High School Rodeo this weekend at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

The rodeo is scheduled to begin Friday with the Cutting and Working Cow Horse events. On Saturday, the rodeo begins at 9 a.m. with all events, and Sunday the competition begins at 8 a.m.

On Saturday night the club is also hosting an open Tommy Lee Jackpot Team Roping.

The Carson-Douglas Rodeo Club is composed of 10 high school and junior high students from the Carson, Douglas, and surrounding areas. This weekend events are expected to bring in about 200 families from all over Nevada.
