The Lady Wave volleyball team had no problems downing Sparks on Wednesday.

Fallon swept the host, 25-9, 25-9 and 25-13, to begin a stretch of five matches in seven days before the regular season concludes next week.

“This league is very competitive so we need to mentally stay where we need to be as a team to put ourselves in the position we want at regionals,” Fallon coach Patty Daum said.

Fallon improved to 9-3 in the 3A North and hosts Spring Creek (1-10) tonight at 6 p.m. and Elko (5-7) on Saturday at noon before senior night against Fernley (2-8) on Monday. All matches are at the Elmo Dericco Gym.

The Lady Wave sits half a game behind Dayton (10-3) for second in the league as Truckee (12-0) remains the team to beat this season. South Tahoe (8-5) is in fourth followed by Lowry (6-6) and Elko.

Fallon travels to Dayton on Wednesday to end the season. The top six teams, though, advance to the regional tournament, which will be in Fallon, in two weeks as the top two teams will make state.

The senior hitting duo of Haylee Paladini and Whitney Skabelund led a balanced attack at the net to keep Sparks winless this year. Paladini led the team with nine kills and Skabelund registered five. Seniors Aleisa Billips, Leann Stands and Kayla Buckmaster had four, three and three kills.

Skabelund was effective at the serving line as she and sophomore Lorynn Fagg each had three aces, and senior Zoey Swisher had two. Stands led in total blocks with four and Paladini had two. Four players each had one dig and Swisher added 16 assists.

“The kids all play different positions and they embrace it, but also appreciate that position more,” Daum said.
