Church honors scout’s Eagle project

Epworth United Methodist Church in Fallon held an open house and brunch in honor of C.J. Turley and Boy Scout Troop 1776.

C.J.’s Eagle Scout project was the renovation of the church’s nursery, and he was assisted by the other troop members. The open house and brunch allowed everyone to thank C.J. and see what a wonderful job the troop did.

The renovation began in the spring of 2016. The project included installing new flooring, painting the walls and ceiling, sanding and painting shelving, making cushions for the window seat, building a new storage unit with cubbies for coats, bags, etc., and buying new furniture and toys. The money for the furniture and supplies was provided from donations by church members. The Boy Scouts, led by C.J., donated the labor and followed plans based on the nursery’s needs.

The newly renovated nursery now has a large storage unit for children and parents to store coats, bags, and whatever else they may bring. There are bookshelves with colorful books children can handle and read, shelves with lots of toys, and a table where children can color, have snacks and play. A separate play area has a toy kitchen and other play units for children to enjoy. The baby room has a new crib and changing table, and plenty of storage for all needed supplies.

The nursery is now ready for parents and children and is staffed by people who have undergone background checks to assure everyone’s safety. Children will be able to enjoy story time, crafts, snacks and fun play time while being carefully supervised.
