Nevada expected to add 426,000 people in next 20 years

LAS VEGAS — State officials are scaling back their prediction on how much Nevada will grow over the next 20 years, though they still think the state will add nearly 426,000 more people.

The Nevada Department of Taxation released new state growth projections on Tuesday.

Clark and Washoe Counties are expected to grow the most from 2015 to 2035. Clark County’s population is expected to increase by about 320,000 people, while Washoe County is expected to add 84,000 people.

Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey Counties are projected to grow by about 26,000 people combined.

Rural counties that are expected to shrink include Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral, Nye and White Pine.

Projections from 2014 predicted growth in those rural counties.

Nevada’s population was about 2.9 million in 2015.
