During the past couple of years, Sierra Lutheran High School has been building its athletic department by adding various sports. In the 2014-2015 school year, SLHS added football and baseball programs.

This past school year, a girls golf program was started. With the completion of a brand new athletic field in 2015, the school is excited to be adding a girls soccer program in fall 2016.

“This is a program we have wanted to start for a while,” said Principal Juls Clausen. “And we have finally found the perfect coach to start it.”

Timothy Plummer, a graduate of Douglas High School, will be the head coach and founder of the new program.

“Tim’s extensive experience and strong coaching philosophy make him the ideal candidate to lay the foundation for our school’s program,” Clausen stated.

Plummer played four years at Douglas High, and was the league MVP his senior year as a center midfielder. He also was a team captain and earned the leadership award from his teammates. Plummer played on a state champion competitive club team, and competed in the Nevada Olympic Development Program for three years. This coming year will be his fourth season coaching high school soccer (one season at Whittell and two at Douglas). Additionally, Plummer has coached youth rec/competitive soccer for six years and is a licensed U.S. Soccer Coach.

Born and raised in the Carson Valley, Plummer is currently a full-time youth pastor at First Presbyterian Church, having obtained a bachelor’s from Colorado Christian University in Organizational Management and Christian Leadership. He and his wife of 12 years have four children.

Plummer said he’s excited about the opportunity to start a new program for several reasons.

“I enjoy the challenge of being a part of something new. Providing another quality soccer program will be good for the area because I believe there is a lot of soccer talent and potential here. I’m excited for the student athletes who get to help start the program and pave the way for those to come.”

In regards to his coaching philosophy, Plummer keeps it simple: “We will focus on controlling possession and the flow of the game by using good footwork, ball control, smart play, and ultimately, teamwork.”

This summer, Plummer and the newly formed SLHS girls soccer team will host a soccer camp for boys and girls going into 4th-8th grades. All ability levels are welcome. Participants will gain skill in possession, attacking, and defending in short-sided scenarios. In addition, participants will have the ability to compete in a 3-on-3 tournament at the end of the week. The camp will run Tuesday-Friday, June 14-17, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on the new SLHS athletic field. The cost is $100 per athlete.

Sierra Lutheran High School was founded in 2002. The school focuses on encouraging and nurturing academic excellence and growth in Christ. A college-prep school, SLHS prides itself on preparing students by offering a variety of opportunities in academics, athletics, leadership, the arts, and student organizations.
