Sonja Kay Vancleave Gasper

Sonja passed away peacefully at her home in Carson City.


Sonja was born in Smith Center, Kansas the daughter of the late James Preston Van Cleave and Ruby Rose Francisco.


She graduated from Reno High School and volunteered for and then worked at, the Nevada State Museum from 1975 until her retirement in 2010.


Sonja loved Nevada, she loved her position at the Museum and giving tours of the Nevada State Capital. She loved Nevada Day and was often seen in costume. Her career gave her great pride and satisfaction.


Sonja was a lifelong member of the Republican Woman’s Committee and loved serving on various campaigns throughout her lifetime.


She was predeceased by Brothers, Jimmy, Leland, Sister, Betty, and Nephew, Edwin.


Her memories will be cherished by her Daughters, Mrs. Robin O. Choi-Marken, and Theresa Anne Gasper; Son-in Law, Wayne Marken; Sister and Brother-in-law, Sandra J. and David Jamieson; Companion, Tony Paculba; Grandchildren, Kiri, Arion, Tyler, Sierra, Savanna and Jessie; Great-Grandchildren, Traeyus, Alirah and Cade; Nephews, Charles and Thomas; Nieces, Lori and Rebecca and numerous Great-Nieces and Nephews.


Services and Reception will be held Monday July 25th, 3:00 PM; St. Paul’s Lutheran Family Church, 1201 N. Saliman Rd., Carson City.
