Theresa Maldonado

Theresa Maldonado (a.k.a. Baby Doll) was born on July 24, 1938 in Fort Yates, ND on the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Reservation. She passed peacefully on August 21, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She is the daughter of George See Walker and Rose Belland. And while growing up with Native American traditional teachings from her Grandmother, Theresa Yellowlodge, she learned to be close with Creator/God with prayer, she learned to be kind, loving, generous, and learned to always help those in need.

After graduating from Fort Yates High School, she attended Haskell Indian Nations University. There Theresa attained a secretary business degree. After college, she moved to Los Angeles, CA to live with her sister, Margaret. While working at Paymaster in Los Angeles as a Secretary, she met the love of her life, Richard Maldonado.

Shortly after, they moved to Carson City, NV in 1976 where she began employment as a Secretary at BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs). Upon retiring after 30 years, she enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, and most importantly she enjoyed her family and friends’ company. Theresa and Richard also attended Mass every Sunday at Saint Teresa of Avila Church in Carson City. They were married for 38 years.

Theresa’s vigor for life was bigger than anyone could ever imagine. Her response to those in need was remarkable. She’d call just to let you know she was there for you, thinking of you, or ready to be by your side in your happiest or darkest times.

Theresa was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Great Aunt, Cousin, and a friend to many. She is proceeded in death by her Mother, Father, 6 Brothers and 2 Sisters. She is survived by her husband Richard Maldonado, Daughter Ruby See Walker, Son Randy De Cora, Sister In-laws Narcisa Jaramillo and Aurelia Zavala, Grandchildren Blue Garza, Jay Garza, Eugene, Kristine, Evan, Janelle, Wendy, and Randy Jr. De Cora, 20 Great Grandchildren, and MANY Nieces and Nephews. She will be missed by ALL who knew her.
