Carson goes for perfect league season

Carson High’s boys basketball team shoots for a perfect league season tonight when it visits arch-rival Douglas.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Randy Green Court.

Both teams are headed for the playoffs. Carson, 15-0 in league play and 21-5 overall, has already locked up the No. 1 Sierra League ranking and hosts No. 4 Reed next Wednesday at 7 p.m. Douglas, 8-7 in league, has the Sierra No. 4 seed and visits High Desert champ Reno Wednesday at 7.

The Senators have yet to lose a game on northern Nevada soil this year. They went 4-0 to win the Rail City Classic in December and have 15 wins against Division I teams. Their five losses came at tournaments, three at the Tarkanian Classic and two at the Riordan Crusader Invitational. “I don’t think about us going 16-0,” CHS coach Carlos Mendeguia said. “We are focusing on each individual game. We haven’t talked about Reed yet. Our thoughts are on Douglas. We’ll start worrying about Reed on Saturday.”

This figures to be a tough game, and given it’s Senior Night, the place is going to be packed.

“It’s going to be a hostile environment,” CHS junior Tez Allen said. “We know all their players. I know they want to beat us really bad.”
