Tschetter goes through Hug offense for Senators

From the first snap until the game was well in hand, Carson middle linebacker Justin Tschetter made his presence felt Friday night.

Tschetter, a junior transfer from Galena, unofficially racked up eight tackles, two behind the line, to help the Senators steamroll Hug, 58-0, at the Jim Frank Track & Field Complex.

Tschetter was part of a unit that held the 1-3 Hawks, who played without starting quarterback-running back Shayne Davis, to just 44 yards total offense.

“The read option was easier to stop,” Tschetter said. “I’m familiar with it because of the Reed game.

“A lot of the credit goes to our defensive linemen. They kept Hug’s offensive linemen from getting to the second level. Our defensive linemen did a really good job.”

Tschetter had thee tackles alone on the first drive, throwing quarterback Tayshawn Clayton for a 2-yard loss. He later tackled Jacob Sweet, who fumbled a handoff, for a 12-yard loss. He was everywhere early, and his aggresiveness helped set the tone early.

Carson coach Blair Roman was impressed with Tschetter’s effort.

“He played tonight like we’ve been expecting he would,” Roman said. “We’re going to need him to step up (the rest of the season).”

Tschetter played the opener against Reed, but missed a game because of a suspension at Galena he didn’t finish serving before moving back to Carson last year. He and Max DeMar give Carson a nice complement to Ikela Lewis in the middle of the defense.
