Renovations of Mallory Emergency Department unveiled at Carson Tahoe Health

The Mallory Foundation’s tradition of innovation and commitment to community is once again on prominent display with the unveiling of the newly renovated Mallory Emergency Department at Carson Tahoe Health. Recently opening its doors, the expanded emergency department entrance was made possible by the foundation’s $500,000 gift.

“The Mallory Emergency Department commemorates and celebrates the impact of a brilliant mind and the kindness of a generous family,” said Kitty McKay, director of foundation development at Carson Tahoe Health. “Since 1989, The Mallory Foundation has contributed a total of $1.7 million to Carson Tahoe Health, influencing our entire community for generations to come.”

Established by the late Jean Mallory, daughter of the inventor and entrepreneur, Marion Mallory, the Mallory Foundation’s charitable support is rooted in education, innovation and holds historical significance both locally and worldwide.

Marion Mallory, a leader in the early years of the automobile industry, began his career working as a mechanic for Harley Davidson. By the early 1920s Mallory was inventing and patenting key components for automobiles, earning widespread recognition and rivaling Thomas Edison in the amount of patent holdings. By 1932, The Mallory Company’s successful designs were used by Mallory’s friend and contemporary, Henry Ford for the world’s first ever Ford V-8 engine. In the same year, Mallory’s improved distributor coils, helping the “No. 17 Mallory Special” place second at the Indianapolis Speedway.

With a desire to discover and expand his entrepreneurial pursuits, The Mallory Company headed west to Nevada in 1969 and was re-established in Carson City. Since this historic relocation, the generous and philanthropic spirit of the Mallory family has continued to benefit some of Northern Nevada’s most prestigious institutions, including Carson Tahoe Health and the University of Nevada, Reno.

“We’re proud and honored to be able to make a true and lasting impact on the health and well-being of our community” said Riley Beckett, head of The Mallory Foundation.

The renovated Mallory Emergency Department is now open. For more information, call 775-445-5166.
