Former Carson High and current University of Nevada pitcher Adam Whitt was selected in the 16th round of the amateur baseball draft Wednesday by the Houston Astros.
Whitt, who still has a year of eligibility left, compiled a 2-2 record with 14 saves for the Wolf Pack this past season. The 14 saves was a school record.
Whitt was the 469th player chosen.
“He was a self-made great player,” said former UNR pitching coach Dave Lawn, who announced he will join former Pack coach Jay Johnson at the University of Arizona. “When guys convert to submarine that sort of thing there are not a lot of people who can teach that. When we first got there, I told him I would see what it was like when he was throwing well and when he wasn’t. Fortunately, he didn’t have too many bad days. He was mostly always good.”
Conor Harber, a two-year star at Western Nevada College, was also drafted in the 16th round. He went 481st overall to the Milwaukee Brewers. Harber spent this past season with the Oregon Ducks.
A current WNC player, DJ Peters, was taken in the 32nd round. Peters hit .340 with seven homers and 39 RBI.
