Carson City’s Bob Fredlund donated $1,000 for the first hole of a planned disc golf course near Flint Drive and Rifle Range Road, Vern Krahn, city parks planner. said Thursday.
Fredlund, when telephoned about the contribution, said it was under the auspices of his Nevada Style Real Estate and Construction Services. He said his family participates in the sport.
“I play golf and I play Frisbie golf,” said the Coldwell Banker real estate agent. “I’ve got hole No. 1. Other people can step up and sponsor a hole.”
City government plans to offer disc golf on 100 acres of land out on U.S. Highway 50 East in the vicinity of Flint Drive after the property, and other land being transferred from the fedral Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to the city, is finally conveyed to Carson City. Leon Thomas of BLM recently said the transfer is close but didn’t want to give a firm date, yet.
Krahn has said constructing the course isn’t too expensive. Thursday he wrote the Nevada Appeal an e-mail late in the work day saying Fredlund “walked into our (Parks and Recreation Department) office and on behalf of his family, Chris (son) and Aiden (grandson) donated $1.000 to construct the first hole at the proposed Carson City Disc Golf Course.”
Lsst Monday, the Board of Supervisors voted to follow the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission and designate the 100 acre site selected after a screening process. The recommendation followed a lengthy look at various possible locations. Advocates have said it will be a fine site and will provide a good place for tournaments, which will bring disc golf players to the community.
In his e-mail, Krahn thanked Fredlund for providing non-tax dollars to help construct the course. “The Parks and Recreation Department appreciates his generosity and community spirit,” said Krahn.
