RENO โ€” State troopers have arrested a 34-year-old Incline Village man they say fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident on the Mount Rose Highway that killed one person and seriously injured two others on New Yearโ€™s Day.

Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman David Gibson said Tuesday that Manuel Mejia-Verduzco has been booked on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death, failure to give aid and driving without a license.

Troopers tracked him to his apartment, where they said he was hiding in the bathroom with a broken arm and broken leg.

Investigators say he was driving a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo that crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty.

A passenger in the Isuzu, 40-year-old Hugo Soto-Barrios, later died from his injuries.

Two passengers in the other car remain in serious condition at a Reno hospital.
