Community spotlight: Carson City residents get golfing this spring


The quartet of Clark and Ryan Balik plus Jeff Cloutier and Mike Gaynor shot a net 106 to win the Silver Oak Men’s Club 4-man two net best ball event on March 29.

Kyle Francis, Joe McNinch, Shawn Mott and Paul Carrion finished second with a 113 along with Tyler Roberts, Mike Michel, Osu Kwon and blind draw. Freeman Johnson, Chuck Nunez, Gary Yoakum and Bill Roy McAlister finished fourth with a 114. Gary Helseth, Ron Tamori, blind score and Shane McInnerny were fifth at 119.

Kevin Johnson had the low gross round with an even-par 72.


Hetherton wins at Empire

Bill Hetherton shot a net 62 to win flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event on April 1.

George Flamer won via tiebreaker over Mike Logue for second. Both shot 63. Mike Rogers was fourth with a 65.

Phil Polaske won B flight with a 62, and Richard Torok won a tiebreaker over Nils Sharpe for second. Both had 63s. Duane Caroll was fourth with a 63. Albert Gianotti won C flight with a 60, one shot ahead of Dennis Smalland four ahead of Joe O’Brien. Jim Laporte won D flight with a 67, two ahead of Art Skipworth and Vic Roscha.


EV women’s group seeks members

Eagle Valley women’s golf group kicks off its season on April 15. By joining the group, you are eligible to play with the 18-hole group on Wednesday, the 9-hole group on Thursday or the once-a-month group on Saturdays.

Odd, even at Carson Valley

Mike Davis won A flight even holes with a 32 and shot 33 on the odd holes at the Carson Valley Men’s Club Odd-Even event on April 4.

Charles Serafine was first place on odd holes with a 32 and Roger Hala was second on even holes with a 34.

In B flight, Bruce Sanford was first place on even holes with a 32 and second on odd holes with a 34. Gary Schreiber was first on odd holes with a 29 and Matt Budjako was second on even holes with a 35. In C flight, Robert Van Nort won odd holes with a 30 and John Carey was first on even holes with a 33. Gary Carsten was second on both odd and even with a 31 and 33, respectively.


Aces tickets on sale

The Pacific Çoast League season starts on Friday when the Reno Aces visit the Albuquerque Isotopes Friday night.
