Community Sports: S. Tahoe-Whittell golf tournament set

Registration for the South Tahoe-Whittell Booster Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 3-4 at Edgewood Golf Club.

The cost is $125 per player, or $225 if you play both days. These are separate tournaments. The entry fee includes golf, cart and lunch. Trophies are awarded to the top three teams each day. Individuals, couples and teams are welcome. There is a hole-in-one prize and $100 closest to the hole awards.

If you register by March 17, you will receive 20 free raffle tickets. Postmark determines eligibility. Registration and payment will only be accepted by mail. Parent meeting for fall CHS sports

A parent meeting will take place April 23 for students interested in participating in fall sports at Carson High. It will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Morse Burley Gym.

Information regarding sign-ups, academic eligibility, concussion testing, school insurance and physicals will be discussed. Breakout sessions with coaches will follow the general meeting.


Special Olympics fundraiser set

Special Olympians and supporters will plunge into the icy waters of Lake Tahoe for the annual South Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge. The event raises funds for Northern California and Nevada Special Olympics.

Plungers are asked to raise $125 which provides one season of sports instruction. The funds allow local athletes an opportunity to participate in regional and national events. Among those scheduled to take the plunge, without wet suits, are members of the Storey County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Nevada Highway Patrol, Greater Nevada Credit Union and the reigning Miss Nevada, Diane Sweeney. This is one of 12 events to benefit Special Olympics.

In 2013, plungers raised more than $450,000. Sponsors of the event include Greater Nevada Credit Union and Coca-Cola.


Silver Oak seeks new members

Silver Oak is currently accepting applications for its men’s and women’s clubs for the upcoming season.

The Senior Men’s Club tees off Tuesday mornings starting April 1 at 8:30 a.m., and the format is individual stroke play. The Sunday’s Men’s Club tee off at 8:30 a.m. each week starting March 23. The women’s group starts on April 17, and the format is fairway shots.

Silver Oak also is offering the One Putt Junior Golf Academy.

Eagle Valley looking for club members

Eagle Valley’s men’s and senior men’s club are looking for members for the upcoming season. The fee is $40 which includes NNGA membership. The first tournament is set for March 15 at 9 a.m.

The women’s group plays every Wednesday morning between April 1 and Oct. 31.
