Part V: Seizing my revolver I rushed to the door and peered into the gloom and heard a shriek of demoniacal laughter and sent a thrill of horror to my heart. I returned to my fire and replenished it. The horrible apparition had driven sleep from me and after long hours I had a feverish wakefulness. At dawn I left the accursed spot, where I am convinced a terrible crime had been enacted. All sorts: Professor Scrugham, head of the mechanical department of the University of Nevada was married to Miss McCann. The first excursion train that will arrive in Tonopah on Railroad day will be brought in with coal from the mines of the Nevada Fuel and Manufacturing Company, owning a tract of coal land at Coaldale.

The war department has ordered a one-hour increase in working schedule of all war industries that have an order backlog. They have issued a similar edict to military and civilian personnel… The work-week has been increased from 48 to 54 hours.
