Carson City woman to prison in NBA ticket scheme

A Carson City woman has been ordered to prison in a basketball ticket scheme authorities say targeted professional athletes and sports agents.

The Nevada Attorney General’s office said 39-year-old Megan Klein was sentenced to 2 ½ to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $20,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to identity theft.

Prosecutors accused Klein of being an accomplice for George French Jones, who was charged in Los Angeles in March of fraudulently peddling premium season tickets to Miami Heat games and small ownership interests in the NBA team. Neither tickets nor ownership in the team was for sale.

Klein was accused of defrauding a sports marketing agent and an attorney who wired Jones a combined $350,000. Prosecutors say she used another woman’s identity in the process.
