Prep roundup: Douglas boys and girls lance McQueen

MINDEN — Michael Johnson’s steal and layup with 2:08 remaining put Douglas on top to stay on its way to a 53-51 victory Tuesday night.

Johnson added one free throw and Zach Kellar added a pair of free throws at the end to help Douglas (2-0 league, 3-3 overall) pull out the Northern Division I crossover win.

The Tigers led virtually all the way, although McQueen came back to tie the score twice in the fourth quarter. The Lancers had possession of the ball and an opportunity to take the lead when Johnson came up with a steal on the defensive end and drove for a layup to put Douglas on top, 50-48.

Sam Broersma led the Tigers offensively with 15 points, including a steal and layup early in the fourth quarter.

The 6-foot-5 senior post came up big down the stretch with three rebounds and forced a turnover.

Johnson added nine points and sophomore Tre Jackson seven for the Tigers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tigers remain undefeated

MINDEN — Corryne Millett and Maddy Lowe combined to score 35 points for undefeated Douglas in its 59-41 victory on Tuesday night.

Millett scored a game-high 18 points, 16 of which came in the second half, while Lowe added 17 points, 13 of which came in the second half, as Douglas (2-0 league, 6-0 overall) won the Northern Division I crossover contest.

Gina Peacock scored nine of her 13 points in the second quarter, including a 3-pointer, to help stake the Tigers to a 24-18 halftime lead.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Carson rolls past Reed

SPARKS — The Senators outscored Reed 24-4 in the first quarter en route to a 64-47 win Tuesday night in a Division I crossover game.

The win upped Carson’s record to 2-3.

Alec Pierson led Carson with 11 and Michael Mendoza added 10. Geraet Rauh and Connor Quilling scored seven each.

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Carson wins thriller

Camiell Simpson drained two free throws with 25 seconds left to snap a 51-all tie and give Carson a 53-51 win over Reed at Morse Burley Gym.

Carson improved to 4-1.

Mallory Otto led Carson with 13 points, Josie Share added 12 and Simpson finished with 11.

Carson hosts Sierra Lutheran Thursday night.

FRESHMAN BOYS BASKETBALL

CHS squeaks past Reed

Dawson Lamb scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter to lead Carson to a 41-38 win over Reed Tuesday afternoon at Morse Burley Gym.

Daniel Morrison also scored nine for the Senators, who won for the first time this year.
